GM Uzbekistan to assemble cars in Tashkent
20.04.2009
GM Uzbekistan, the Uzbek-American joint venture, is planning to transfer assemblage of Chevrolet Epica sedan and Chevrolet Captiva off-road models on industrial base of the state joint stock company Chkalov Tashkent Aircraft Production Association this year.
As the press service of Uzavtoprom Joint Stock Company informed, the aircraft plant would host an affiliate of GM Uzbekistan on some of its production floors, which would run semi knock down assembling of the two models with the annual output capacity of 15 thousand cars. Toward the end of the year the car-shop will be supplied with the necessary equipment and technologies of about $4mln.
The semi knock down assembling is transferred to Tashkent in connection with the optimization of production processes at the factory in Asaka city, and employing the uninvolved production floors.
Currently, the Asaka car factory, whose design capacity is 240 thousand cars per year, manufactures three Chevrolet models – sedans Nexia and Lacetti, microbus Damas and midget Matiz.
